Last week, we discussed the hidden cost of your beliefs and how these unconscious beliefs quietly shape your life, from finances and relationships to health and confidence. As a follow-up, these next 2 weeks we will discuss both the physical and mental consequences of how these beliefs affect your body and life through your nervous system.
Our Series:
Part I: Learn about chronic stress and how unresolved beliefs trigger cortisol and adrenaline and the costs to our body and brain.
Discover how unresolved beliefs and chronic stress keep your body in fight, flight, or freez,e and the consequences of living in this constant autopilot state.
Part II: How to Shift from Survival Mode to a Thriving State (Using Biology + Belief)
Shift from chronic stress to thriving with daily tools that activate dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin—rewiring your nervous system and belief patterns.
Part 1:
Are you Living in Autopilot Fight, Flight or Freeze and don't even realize?
Most people think of fight, flight, or freeze as a rare reaction; like when you’re startled, scared, or in real danger.
But here’s what most people don’t realize:
You could be living in that state every single day.Without even knowing it.Because your nervous system has trained itself to live on survival autopilot.
This chronic stress state doesn’t always look like panic. It often looks like:
Trouble sleeping
Difficulty making decisions
Emotional shutdown
Overreaction to small things
Feeling exhausted but wired
These aren’t just issues popping up randomly; they’re nervous system patterns, and they’re more common than ever.
Stress and Survival Mode Are On the Rise
Let’s look at what the numbers show:
🔺 Nearly 50% of U.S. adults now report frequent stress; up from 33% in the early 2000s
(Gallup Poll, 2024)
🔺 18–19% of adults are diagnosed with an anxiety disorder annually
(National Institute of Mental Health)
🔺 Anxiety among youth (ages 10–24) has risen by more than 50% since 1990, with the steepest increases after 2019
(Global Burden of Disease Study, 2023)
🔺 Only 25% of U.S. adults report sleeping at least 8 hours per night—compared to 59% in 1942
(Gallup + NY Post, 2024)
These stats point to a deeper truth:
Millions of nervous systems are living in chronic fight, flight, or freeze.
What Happens When You’re in Survival Mode?
When you feel unsafe (physically or emotionally), your brain triggers the sympathetic nervous system, which sends stress chemicals like:
Cortisol – Your main stress hormone
Adrenaline – Your fast-acting panic button
This may have served you in the past. But if you never reset those patterns? Your body begins to treat everything as a threat; even emails, bills, conversations, or silence.
And your nervous system gets stuck.
How Limiting Beliefs Trap You in the Survival Loop
If you’ve ever believed…
“I’m not safe.”
“I always have to do everything myself.”
“People always let me down.”
“If I slow down, I’ll lose control.”
…then those beliefs likely trained your body to stay alert, even when nothing is actually wrong.
Here’s how the pattern works:
A limiting belief gets triggered
Your brain perceives a threat
Fight/flight/freeze activates
Cortisol and adrenaline flood your system
You overreact, shut down, or spiral
The original belief feels “proven” again
This is a biological cycle, not just a thought loop.
What Chronic Stress Does to Your Mind and Body
When your nervous system is on autopilot, it changes everything:
❌ Cortisol & Adrenaline Overload:
Shrinks memory centers (hippocampus)
Suppresses immune function
Raises inflammation
Disrupts sleep and digestion
Shuts down logical thinking and future planning (prefrontal cortex- Your executive brain functions)
You’re not forgetful, unfocused, or weak. You’re running on a chemistry your body didn’t choose, but now repeats.
Breakthrough Cue:
Always start with WHY: "Why is my nervous system feeling threatened?"
“What is it I could be believing that is causing my body to stay on high alert, over and over again?”
“What would it feel like to start creating safety instead of stress?”
You don’t need to have the full answer today. But asking the questions starts the shift.
Start with WHY and practice that for a week, and see what answers may come up for you. There is so much information we want to teach you, so we will pick up next week, with more specific practices to help you begin to rewire your nervous system, on purpose, by triggering the body’s feel-good, thriving chemicals:
✨ dopamine✨ serotonin✨ oxytocin✨ endorphins
You’ll learn simple daily tools that help you break the cycle of survival mode and teach your
nervuous system how to creating thriving in your body and life.
